Joby Martin is one of our “original” ninjas who joined us when we first opened Rock Solid in September of 2019! He was also one of our first Competition Team Members when we started that program in 2020. He quickly grew to love the sport of ninja, and showed that he could work well with kids, so he was hired as a Ninja Coach for our classes at only 14 years old in August of 2022. You’ve probably seen him the most in our Mini and Level 1 classes, but he also helps out with our day camps over the Summer, and the kids all love Coach Joby!

Joby is a man of many talents. On top of being a great ninja, Joby is very musical, having done musical theater for many years, as well as playing guitar and drums. He also likes programming and writing computer code. As far as athletic pursuits, he’s a fantastic disc golf player, and has been running Cross Country with the Cary Fire Homeschool Team. He also ran a Half Marathon last year!

While ninja was Joby’s first organized sport before he joined the Comp Team and then the Cary Fire XC Team, he’s proud of the fact that he placed first in his first ninja competition when he was only eleven years old. He also enjoyed his two years of competing at the local gyms like Warrior Zone and Warrior Tech alongside Rock Solid. His favorite obstacle is the Salmon Ladder, though he says it took him a long time to master the technique and to learn to love it. He built a ninja rig in his backyard during Covid so he could get really good at it and practice all sorts of variations and tricks on the Salmon Ladder.

Joby is always smiling, energetic, and joyful. He wants to encourage other young ninjas with the following Bible verse: 1 Tim 4:12, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.”
